Although I’m reticent to express my opinions on a game that isn’t finished, Talisman Digital Edition has come to my attention recently. More and more the development process of many games are open books with nothing hidden or obscured. This can be both a blessing and a curse for video game developers. Continue reading

The Stanley Parable Review
The Stanley Parable is a game that has captured the attention of a certain subset of gamers. They are interested in challenging the linear and pre-determined nature of video game narratives. Traditional video games have seemed to make many assumptions about player’s actions, with the narrative guiding the player down the developers chosen path. Davey Wreden’s game looks to make a critic on the trend in modern video game storytelling. Continue reading
Montague’s Mount Review
Montague’s Mount follows the emerging trend in many current indie adventure titles, were personal narrative and a solitary atmosphere take precedence over traditional gameplay mechanics. Games like Gone Home or Routine are examples of those in the genre attempting such things. Continue reading
Xbox One Review v2
This may be the first time that I attempt to write a review without it going off on a tangent, however I can’t promise anything. The Xbox One is only a few days from its launch and I had the pleasure of experiencing the next generation console last Saturday evening, a week ahead of the Friday 22nd release date. As part of the Microsoft promotion push the new console was taken on a whistle stop tour around the world which included a stopover at Dublin’s Ambassador Theatre. Continue reading
Call of Duty: Ghosts Review
Like many other popular franchises Call of Duty has become an annual series, with a new game being released every holiday season. The latest game in the series Call of Duty: Ghosts is based upon it successors with the usual set of features and gameplay mechanics. Activation’s cash cow franchise hasn’t really looked to innovate since the bitter departure of Jason West and Vince Zampella from Infinity Ward. Continue reading
Battlefield 4 Review
The Battlefield series has played second fiddle to its far more popular rival Call of Duty for many years now. This year Battlefield 4 goes up against Call of Duty: Ghosts, which one will come out on top? Although I’m personally a fan of DICE games my money would be on Call of Duty. The Battlefield series was not always residing in COD’s shadow with its breakout title Battlefield 1942 giving gamers an entirely new experience in the FPS genre. Continue reading
Assassin’s Creed IV Review
Ahoy matey, where off on the high seas for another adventure with everybody’s favourite cloak and dagger organisation the Brotherhood of Assassins. In the latest title of the series the player assumes control of Edward Kenway father of morally ambiguous Templar Haytham Kenway. Continue reading
GTA Online Review
As I write this article I have only just started to get to grips with Rockstar’s ambitious online open world, so my opinions may change with further gameplay. Turbulent would be the best word to describe the launch of GTA Online, even tumultuous to describe the reaction of some fans and critics. Continue reading
Rome Total War II Review
In order to get this out of the way and onto what I really want to discuss, this is probably the most appropriate article to go under the title of Review (sort of?). I’ve played most games in the Total War series with the Medieval Titles being my personal favourite. Rome Total War II is building upon Creative Assembly’s years of experience in the RTS genre, with an extensive campaign map and numerous factions to fight and play for. Now that’s the review out of the way I can get onto the real topic of this article that is how the relationship between video games and mainstream media has changed with the onset of the internet. Continue reading
Saints Row IV Review
Volition have tried so hard to step out of Rockstar’s shadow, ever since their first attempt at an open world game they have had to bear the GTA clone tagline. Saints Row IV is their latest attempt to put their own stamp on the genre. Where Rockstar have gone towards cinematic griping gameplay as was demonstrated by 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, Volition have decided to go in the other direction where over the top weapon and character customization take precedence over narrative gameplay. Continue reading
